Old World Journey

HONORING OUR FALLEN HEROES
Happy Memorial Day! This is a special day to our family, as we are so incredibly grateful for those who made the ultimate sacrifice and gave their lives to secure the freedom that we enjoy every day. We realize that so many have experienced the loss of a loved one who gave their life serving our beautiful USA. We want to honor our fallen heroes, as well as their families.
A Long Overdue Update
It's been a long time since we've posted an update on the blog! It's one of those strange seasons where everything and nothing seems to be happening at once. Have you ever had a season like that in your life? It is the weirdest feeling.
It's Time to Line Your Shelves with Sparkling Jars of Goodness!
Besides jams and jellies, some of our favorite homestead canned goods are habanero pepper jelly (this is AMAZING, and I'll try to share the recipe this summer!), hot chow chow, onion relish, hot sauce, peach pie filling, pickles, salsa, and tomato sauce.

Feeling the weather change from cool and brisk to warm and toasty. The water warms up, the dirt becomes crumbly, and the hills and fields come alive with new life everywhere you look.
Small Things Make the Best Memories...
Ever since I was little I remember loving Valentine's Day. It was always very fun for me to make special little cards for my family and tell them how much they meant to me...
Choosing a Wood Type for Your Dreamware - Thoughts on American Beech
It seems like most customers pick out a wood type mostly based on the color and grain type that appeals to them. There's nothing wrong with that, and it's often the only information that an online customer has to go on, but there are other factors to consider when choosing a wood type...
Change Can Help You Change...

As I look back over this past year it amazes me how many things have changed. They've changed for the better too. For that I'm really  thankful.

I would be the first person to tell you I don't like change. It rocks my boat and makes me feel panicky sometimes. I like things to stay, well, normal...

Autumn Has Called for Cinnamon Coffee Cake
The leaves are beginning to fall from the trees and the atmosphere in the house is turning into quite the holiday mood. The weather has been in the 50's and 60's the past few days, which has been quite delicious..
A Little Farm Update
It seemed to take forever for the winter to really end and the trees to leaf out, and the grass to start growing. But when spring decided to show up it changed into summer almost immediately, it seems. The weather lurches back and forth between being clear and hot and dry for days, to being cloudy and misty and rainy for days on end. But the garden seems to love it...
Hand Carved Heart Spoons

A couple years ago we made some special heart shaped spoons for Valentine's Day and they were an enormous hit! Since then we have brought them back several times but have never permanently added them to the shop. I think they are just too much fun to make one-of-a-kind and unique each time.

We have been batting around the idea of making more one-of-a-kind pieces to keep in stock here on the website lately. They would be individually photographed and you would buy exactly the item in the picture...

Spoon Butter
So, what do you do when your dreamware needs some extra love and care? No matter how gently you treat your wooden spoons, they are going to get dry and rough at some point, because they are made from a natural substance- wood.
We do not use any unnatural finishes, so your dreamware will need to be moisturized every once in a while to keep it in the best possible condition. We developed our own signature beeswax cream to seal our hand carved kitchen utensils once they are rubbed to a silky smooth finish...
Spring on our Farm

Spring has finally arrived at the farm. We are enjoying the milder weather and the long sunny days. I will try to share more here as we start planting gardens and getting into the farming season.

For now I just wanted to share some images I captured yesterday around the farm. I am so happy we finally have sunshine, green everywhere and lots of blooms...

Perfect Gift for Cooks - Spearmint Hand Cream
We are super excited about this brand new product we've been working on for quite a while! A luscious, deeply moisturizing hand cream, especially for cooks who constantly have their hands in and out of hot dishwater. You guys... it is SO good.
November is here...

This year has flown by. I decided when we launched the new website that I would try really hard to consistently update the blog, even if all I post is a tiny little update. Some of you are probably laughing, thinking you've heard me say that more than once over the past couple years.

At any rate, I realize that many of you out there don't follow us on social media. I do a fairly good job of keeping our social media followers in the loop about what goes on behind the scenes, our farm life, and any big news... but unfortunately those who don't use social media miss out on a lot of the inspiration and beauty we share...

Lavender & Rosemary Lemonade
Summer is almost over, but as long as it's sunny and hot, I don't think it's too late to enjoy a glass of lemonade!  Our friend, Regan, over at Up Close & Tasty, created this delightful recipe that adds in...
